Opinion: It is of crucial importance to avoid aggression, hostility after the election

MOSCOW, 9 August (BelTA) – It is of crucial importance to avoid aggression and hostility in the streets of Belarusian cities after the results of the election campaign are summed up, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas told the media after he cast his ballot in the 2020 Belarus presidential election at the polling station in Moscow on 9 August, BelTA has learned.

“There are always winners and runners-up at the election. I would like that this was taken calmly, and there was no aggression, hostility in our streets, in our cities. This is important for the security of the country as well. We need to come through this campaign calmly and accept the decision which the majority of our people will make at this election,” the CSTO secretary general said.

Stanislav Zas stressed that the election campaign is an internal affair of any state. “I am confident that Belarus will deal with it without any help from outside,” he added.

Polling stations for Belarus presidential election have been set up in three Russian cities: Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Kaliningrad. The polling stations are located at the Belarusian embassies. Belarusian citizens, who temporarily or permanently live in the Russian Federation, diplomats and their family members, employees of integration bodies vote here.

Amid the coronavirus concerns, some adjustments have been made to the election process and the work of the precinct commission in Moscow.
