Opinion: Government's main task is to create comfortable living conditions

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) - The main task of the authorities is to create comfortable living conditions, Minsk Oblast Governor Aleksandr Turchin said as he attended an official ceremony to open a new building of the Cherven Regional History Museum, BelTA has learned.

“The priority for the government is social, engineering and transport infrastructure of cities. The town of Cherven has done a great job while preparing to host the regional Dazhynki harvest festival. Social infrastructure facilities such as a museum, a kindergarten, which will reopen on Saturday, schools have been renovated. Significant funds have been invested in the improvement of roads, streets, yards,” Aleksandr Turchin said. "We will continue to stick to this principle. Creating comfortable living conditions for people in cities is our priority. Kindergartens, schools, hospitals, recreation areas are equally important for people,” he noted.

The building of the Cherven Regional History Museum was built in 1900. Ceiling structures between the basement and the first floor collapsed partially in July 2014. The building was given a pre-emergency status. In January 2018, a decision was made to carry out an overhaul project. Yet, the cost of reconstruction was estimated 2.1 times higher than the new construction. Therefore, it was decided to demolish the old building and build a new one.

The new building is 605.9 m2 big. The new building of the museum includes a conference room, an exhibition hall for hosting permanent exhibitions, and three more exhibition halls. Central expositions will be devoted to space and also Haim Soutine and Stanislav Moniushko. The museum will also incorporate an exhibition of ethnography currently based in the village of Ivanichi. The museum will provide a set of services including meetings with authors, roundtables, lectures, and presentations. The museum boasts a barrier-free environment.

Minsk Oblast has not opened new museums for a long time, the governor said. Therefore, today's event is really a big one. "Culture is an important part of any society. We need to do more on this front," Aleksandr Turchin said.
