MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – It is important for the CIS countries to unite their efforts in counteracting the aggressive external pressure, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev told the media in Minsk on 1 June, BelTA has learned.

On 1 June Minsk is set to host the 52nd meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services. The heads of delegations honored the feat of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War and laid flowers at the Victory Monument.

“Minsk is called the CIS capital for a reason. The city hosts many sessions and meetings dedicated to our cooperation and interaction. It is especially relevant today given the current conditions of rude and aggressive pressure on Belarus, Russia and other CIS countries. It is very important for us to unite our efforts in counteracting these threats and pressure in order to protect the sovereignty and independence of the CIS,” Sergei Lebedev said.

According to the CIS secretary general, there are attempts of terrorist attacks and sabotage on the territory of Belarus and Russia today. “The heads of special services and security agencies have gathered to discuss joint measures to counter these new challenges and threats. I hope that at today's meeting, which is to consider many issues related to combating terrorism and encroachment on our sovereignty, we will be able to take decisions that will contribute to strengthening our security,” Sergei Lebedev concluded.
