Opinion: Belarusians are offered illusions that butter no parsnips

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – We are being offered illusions that butter no parsnips, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko told the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper, BelTA has learned.

“Our current task is to preserve the sovereignty, the integrity of the country and the unity of the nation. Today we see certain marketing strategies being employed to sell us a defective product,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said. “There are no concrete proposals. In fact, they are selling us illusions touting them as something real. We do not even know who are they, what means should be used to achieve these illusionary goals and who are paying. We see that the society has split: everybody has their own perception of the current state of affairs in the country,” Aleksandr Tishchenko noted.

In order to get a grasp of what is going on, people need time to think and to peruse various sources of information, he said. “Do not let emotions overcome you. Those who are trying to understand the current events, to think critically do not buy this protest movement sham. The rest, however, are feeling euphoric feeding on this information that has nothing to do with the reality,” the expert noted.

“What changes do the protesters want? What concrete things are they offering us? You will not find a decent answer to these questions. This is why each and every one of us should think critically and understand that we will not build the future on the emotions. The future requires the pragmatism we are used to. Today we are being offered the illusions that butter no parsnips,” Aleksandr Tishchenko added.
