Opinion: Belarusian pavilion will stand out at 58th Venice Biennale 2019

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – It will be difficult not to notice the Belarusian pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale 2019, commissioner of the pavilion, Director of the National Center of Modern Arts Sergei Krishtapovich told the media on 10 April, BelTA has learned.

The theme of this year's art exhibition is life in times of change, the place for man and art in it. Belarus will present its project Vykhod (Exit), curator Olga Rybchinskaya, exhibitor Konstantin Selikhanov. “This year's slogan of the 58th Venice Biennale is May You Live in Interesting Times. I am confident that we will be able to make one more step towards the Grand-Prix. This is not an end in itself. This is a process of artistic growth. I am happy that we are developing a national pavilion. It will be noticed, no doubt. It would be great if we get some award,” Sergei Krishtapovich said.

He noted that it is a month before the exhibition kicks off. The Belarusian project is almost ready. "The Venice Biennale is a platform where each participant has the opportunity to speak on one topic, the slogan, and emphasize the belonging to one's own culture and common issues. This platform gives the opportunity to speak and show your vision of the processes that are taking place in the world,” the commissioner said.

The project Exit is multi-dimensional and lies within the coordinates of time, history and modernity. The exposition is based on spatial interaction of five multimedia objects. "Life-size sculptures of a human being are interconnected with ready-made subject forms (TV, neon sign, tray with glasses of milk, slogan, packing boxes). The format of total installation unites the elements into a single whole and creates a unique aura of an important message, indirect expression,” curator Olga Rybchinskaya said.

The Belarusian pavilion with the total area of 50 square meters will be presented in Castello, the area of Venice. The 58th Venice Biennale will be taking place from 11 May to 24 November. Among the organizers of the national pavilion are the Culture Ministry, the National Center of Modern Arts under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Belarusian embassy in Italy.
