Opinion: Belarus' development goals can be achieved only through peace and people's unity

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) - The priorities of the forthcoming five-year period have been determined and have a pronounced social orientation, but they can be implemented only in conditions of peace and unity of the Belarusian people, Marianna Schetkina, a delegate of the 6th Belarusian People's Congress, head of the office of the Standing Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State in Minsk, member of the Board of the Belarusian Union of Women, told BelTA.

“The 6th Belarusian People's Congress will consider the main provisions of the country's draft social and economic development program for 2021-2025. Prior to the meeting, these provisions were discussed at the meeting of Minsk delegates, as well as at dialogue platforms. The forum should determine the main vectors of country's development, with representatives of labor collectives, public associations, and government agencies involved in the discussion,” Marianna Shchetkina said.

She is convinced that in the current circumstances special attention should be paid to the integration processes in the Union State. “More active movement towards each other, the solution of problematic issues will ensure the development of national economies, create conditions for the growth of people's well-being and, most importantly, ensure national security. Fraternal relations between the peoples of Belarus and Russia are the basis for cooperation and successful construction of the Union State,” stressed the head of the office of the Standing Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State in Minsk.

In her opinion, youth policy is of high importance. “Belarus and Russia are united by a common culture and history. We were brought up by the generations who won the Great Patriotic War and restored the destroyed territories and industries. Time goes on, generations change, and the transformation of the system of values is a reality. Therefore, a holistic system of patriotic education must be built within the state. “Love towards Motherland is the first dignity of a civilized man” is a well-known quote. At all times, patriots were appreciated and traitors were despised. Building common educational space in the Union State, it is advisable to develop common approaches in the educational work, to form a system of universal human values, to counteract the dissemination of ideas of radicalism and nationalism,” Marianna Shchetkina said.

“Educated, creative, patriotic, highly intellectual youth, whose healthy ambitions are aimed at self-realization, building an open and fair society, based on solidarity of generations and unity, is a driving force behind society development. The support of the strategic directions of the country's development by the Belarusian People's Congress delegates will form the basis for systematic actions for their implementation,” said Marianna Shchetkina.
