Number of visa-free tourist arrivals in Brest Oblast up 2.5 times in January-April 2019

BREST, 3 May (BelTA) – In January-April 2019 the number of visa-free tourist arrivals to the tourist and recreation zone “Brest” increased 2.5 times from the same period last year, BelTA learned from head of the tourism sector at the sports and tourism department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Denis Nikityuk.

About 7,500 travelers from 42 countries visited the region in January-April 2019 using the visa-free travel program. In January-April 2018 Brest and its surroundings were visited by nearly 3,000 visa-free foreign travelers. Eight out of every ten foreign visitors came from Poland. The tourist and recreation zone “Brest” is also popular among representatives of Lithuania, Germany, Croatia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Macedonia, the UK and Italy.

Brest Oblast focuses on the development of events tourism, including the organization of international entertainment, cultural, and sports events. “Today the region pays close attention to cycling. At least three bike festivals are scheduled for May-June in the region. Other countries, first of all, Poland show interest in them as well,” Denis Nikityuk said.

The visa-free travel program was introduced in Brest, Brest District, Zhabinka District, Kamenets District and Pruzhany District on 1 January 2018. Over the time almost 26,000 tourists from more than 70 countries visited the region visa free.
