MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – The establishment of the nuclear energy industry is going to advance the country to a new cycle of development. The statement was made by Pavel Bertosh, a consultant of the Nuclear Energy Department of the Belarusian Energy Ministry, during the roundtable session held in the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR) on 10 April to discuss nuclear energy as a driver of sustainable development of the country's scientific and educational cluster, BelTA has learned.
The official said: “Today we are creating a new economy branch in our country – nuclear energy industry. Experience of other countries operating nuclear power plants demonstrates that the establishment of a nuclear energy industry advances the country to a new cycle of development. It attracts cutting-edge R&D and innovations to the country from the outside. It also triggers internal processes for modernizing many branches of the manufacturing sector, raising the quality of education and training of specialists in energy industry and other branches of the national economy.”
In order to provide personnel for the country's nuclear energy program a government program was adopted to train nuclear energy industry personnel in the 2008-2020 period right after the decision to build a nuclear power plant in Belarus was made in 2008. “Within the framework of this program Belarusian universities train specialists in nuclear energy industry professions, which are new in Belarus. The graduates already work in the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant as well as other organizations involved in the nuclear energy program – the Emergencies Ministry, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, environmental organizations,” Pavel Bertosh said.
Pavel Bertosh underlined that the topic of today's roundtable session is of current interest not only for representatives of the Belarusian universities, which train personnel for the nuclear energy industry, but also for the students taking part in the meeting. Participants of the meeting are expected to discuss ways to improve the quality of specialist training, networking interaction of universities, the development of fundamental science and applied science in the area of nuclear energy technologies in Belarus.
