MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) – Belarus has encountered no major problems with visa-free travel during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Belarus' Deputy Interior Minister Nikolai Melchenko told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“There have been no problems in principle,” the deputy minister said. He noted that the Belarusian law-enforcing agencies interact with Russian counterparts and exchange information as provided for in the Belarus-Russia visa recognition agreement.
Not all fans are aware of the fact that they need a Schengen visa for transit travel to Kaliningrad though. “In such cases, we do explanatory work. They return to Russia,” Nikolai Melchenko said.
Yet there are those who make attempts to illegally cross into the European Union using the FAN IDs, Nikolai Melchenko informed. Such attempts have been undertaken by citizens of Morocco and Bangladesh. They have been detained on the border. Now they are pending deportation.
