MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Nigeria intend to develop long-term cooperation in education. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Belarus' Education Minister Igor Karpenko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nigeria to Belarus non-resident Steve Davies Ugbah, BelTA learned from the press service of the Education Ministry.
Steve Davies Ugbah was providedd a draft agreement between the governments of Belarus and Nigeria on cooperation in education. During the meeting Igor Karpenko expressed readiness to invite the education minister of Nigeria to Belarus to discuss joint education projects and get the minister familiar with all the levels of the national education system. “Our meeting is taking place at the time when you have just presented your credentials to the president of our country and when our friendly relations with the African continent have been steadily developing. I can assure you that we are ready to discuss any education issues in order to achieve concrete results during your diplomatic mission,” Igor Karpenko said.
The ambassador states, in turn, that Belarus is the country with which there is a strong wish to develop long-term partnership. The country plays an important role in various aspects of development in Nigeria. “Our students highly appreciate the experience of studying in Belarus, and we would like to continue this practice. We are interested in your educational development experience and your technologies. We need your support to make Nigeria a developed country. The level of illiteracy is very high in some regions. The training of specialists of different levels is very important for us today. We would like to adopt your model of education. In our opinion, it is very successful,” said Steve Davies Ugbah.
Igor Karpenko suggested considering the issue of training the personnel for the economic sector of Nigeria using the example of the resource centers in Belarus.
