Nearly 39,000 people join Forest Cleanup campaign

MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Almost 39,000 people took part in the Forest Cleanup nationwide campaign on 17 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Forestry Ministry.

“38,852 volunteers took part in the nationwide campaign. The initiative was most actively supported in Gomel Oblast (8,306 volunteers) and Mogilev Oblast (7,465). Volunteers worked at 2,288 venues throughout the country,” the press service said.

Taking part in the campaign were schoolchildren, students, labor collectives, as well as representatives of various government agencies (the State Control Committee, the State Customs Committee, the General Prosecutor's Office and others).

Volunteers helped forestry industry workers clean up forests and plant trees. In just one day forestry workers and volunteers collected about 4,500 cubic meters of garbage. They also revamped roadside areas, places near memorial complexes, memorial signs and other facilities. More than 1.35 million trees were planted on the area of nearly 1,300 hectares.

The Forestry Ministry would like to thank all the volunteers for their help and remind them of the photography competition. To do this, you need to post a photo from the venue of the campaign with the hashtags # Chystyles2020 or # Chistyles2020 on social networks (Facebook, VKontakte, Instagram, Twitter). The best entries will receive souvenirs from the Forestry Ministry.
