MPs to ratify agreement on maintenance of bridges on Belarus-Poland border at spring session

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - Belarusian MPs are planning to review the draft law on ratification of the agreement on maintenance of road bridges on the Belarusian-Polish state border at the spring session, Igor Martynov, a member of the standing commission on national security, told BelTA.

Belarus and Poland agreed on the mechanism of joint maintenance of bridges, driveways to them, lighting installation and other issues. According to him, it is about the division of responsibilities based on a territorial principle. This means that the party in whose territory the object is located will finance necessary works.

The agreement will enable the parties to keep bridges in good condition for a longer timer, make the operation of cross-border infrastructure more efficient. “Necessary works will be carried out in such a way as to not create inconveniences for traffic crossing the border,” Igor Martynov said.

The agreement was signed in Brest on 27 June 2018. The document has replaced the agreement of 18 May 1993.
