MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) - The Union State of Belarus and Russia is a driver of integration in the region, Andrei Savinykh, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, told the media on 23 December, BelTA has learned.
“Globalization is collapsing and regionalization processes are intensifying. The Union State, CIS, EAEU are all regional projects. This is an attempt to set up a regional union, a macro-region, the union of sovereign states, which are united on certain principles to protect their future,” said Andrei Savinykh.
According to him, the main driver of integration in our macro-region is the Union State. “This is primarily a political union. It is also a union for creating a single market, a single economic space, which will be free from administrative barriers for almost all participants,” said the MP. “It seems to me that the Union State in this regard could become a prototype for a political union, which will expand across the whole macro-region. We are talking more and more about this possibility. This expansion, deepening and intensification of integration will certainly take place within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and the CIS. I can say that the macro-region could expand to several countries that are our potential political allies.”
On 23 December the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives is playing host to a round table on “International cooperation transformation trends in the context of the multipolar world development”. The main objective of the event is to exchange views on the main areas and tasks of inter-parliamentary cooperation to ensure the national interests of Belarus in the international arena.

Taking part in the event are members of the House of Representatives of the seventh convocation, MPs of the Republic of Belarus of previous convocations, employees of the secretariat of the House of Representatives.
