MP: Far-right march in Hajnowka can affect Belarus-Poland dialogue

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – The International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus regretted to learn about plans to stage another provocative act of far-right forces in the Polish town of Hajnowka heavily populated with ethnic Belarusians. Here on 23 February radicals are to stage another commemorative march of the so-called “Damned Soldiers” who committed crimes against civilians, mostly ethnic Belarusians of the Eastern Orthodox denomination. Chairman of the International Affairs Commission Valery Voronetsky told a BelTA journalist that this might have a negative impact on the Belarus-Poland dialogue.

Belarusian MPs voice concern over possible repercussions. “Another provocative move of nationalists in Hajnowka can damage cooperation and affect the ongoing historical dialogue between our countries,” Valery Voronetsky said.

The MPs believe that “Polish parliamentarians and clear-headed citizens will give their take on the planned rally and will not let it happen.”
