Moscow residents stage rally in support of Belarus

MOSCOW, 21 August (BelTA) – Moscow residents held a rally to show support for Belarus in front of the Belarusian embassy in Moscow on 21 August, BelTA has learned.

Participants of the rally formed a human chain. They were wearing white T-shirts with the images of the Belarusian flag, Aleksandr Lukashenko's portrait, and the slogan “For Lukashenko! For brotherly Belarus!” and waving red-and-green flags with the Belarusian emblem.

“The event has brought together Moscow residents from various walks of life and of various opinions. We have come here because we love Belarus and Belarusians,” member of the Moscow City Duma Yelena Shuvalova told journalists.

“I have supported this rally because Aleksandr Lukashenko is the chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State and we hope that his victory in the election will give an impetus to the development of the Union State. We are happy that things have calmed down in Belarusian cities and parents have turned their attention to their children, and started getting ready for the school year. The people needed time to sort things out,” another participant of the rally, Moscow resident Vladimir Gorbanovsky noted.

A lot of passers-by supported the rally, making photos and greeting the participants. Some asked where they could buy such T-shirts. “We had these T-shirts made specifically for the event,” Yelena Shuvalova answered.

The local police did not interfere with the rally. The event was held without any incidents.
