MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – The Regional Strategic Forum for Europe 2019 will take place in Minsk on 9-10 July with the aim to prepare for the 27th Congress of the Universal Postal Union, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Communications and Informatization Ministry.
It is planned that taking part in the forum will be about 100 representatives of Europe and Central Asia. The forum will review the regional implementation of the Istanbul World Postal Strategy, discuss the regional component of the future Abidjan Postal Strategy, and define regional priorities for 2021-2024.
In April, a regular meeting of the UPU Council of Administration was held at the headquarters of the Universal Postal Union in Bern, Switzerland in order to prepare for the congress. Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization Natalia Gordeyenko took part in the meeting as an observer from Belarus. The UPU Administrative Council is working on reforming the system applicable to contributions made the UPU member countries. The new model should be as transparent and fair as possible. This issue was submitted for consideration by holding an extraordinary congress of the UPU in September 2019.
Meetings of the commissions took place to discuss topical issues of general management, risk management and administrative information support systems, integration of the logistics network and payment systems, technical assistance, research and information support from the UPU, e-commerce policy and e-services, the contribution of the UPU and the member states to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the development cooperation policy. The meeting of the Council of Administration of the Universal Postal Union was an important stage in preparing for the 27th UPU Congress in 2020 and made it possible to outline areas for the further development of postal services, taking into account current global trends," the ministry said.
The 27th Congress of the Universal Postal Union will be held in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire in 2020.More about Society
