Minsk to host festival of student construction brigades on 11 August

MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – The open city festival of student construction brigades Working is Cool will gather young people from Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 11 August, BelTA learned from head of the Minsk unit of student construction brigades of the BRSM Youth Union Sergei Rukan.

The sports festival will take place at the Minsk-based Athlete sports center. “Young men will compete in mini-football, volleyball, tug-of-war, kettlebell lifting, while girls will compete in darts and jumping rope. The project will bring together young people from all districts of Minsk and from 14 higher learning institutions. All in all, there will be about 500 people. Apart from that, we will welcome students from Saint Petersburg who are in Minsk to help build a dormitory in the Student Village,” Sergei Rukan said.

The competitions will be followed by an open dialogue “Student Construction Brigades: Prospects for the Future”. The veterans of the movement, today's activists and organizations employing student construction teams will discuss part-time and summer jobs for secondary school and university students.

Student construction brigades are one of the leading areas of work of the BRSM Youth Union. This year about 4,000 students will work in construction teams, service teams, educational, environmental and agricultural teams. Minsk students are involved in key construction projects, such as the Belarusian nuclear power plant and the Student Village expansion.
