Minsk mayor: Work is in progress at 33 healthcare, education facilities

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – Construction and upgrade works are underway at 33 healthcare and education facilities in Minsk as part of the city's investment program, Minsk Mayor Anatoly Sivak told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“Work is in progress at 33 healthcare and education facilities, including 10 hospitals and outpatient clinics. One of the buildings of the cancer center is to be commissioned soon; work at Minsk Hospital No. 9 is in full swing. A school in the Kamennaya Gorka neighborhood will be finished soon. This is a large-scale investment program that focuses mostly on healthcare and education.

On 2 June Anatoly Sivak briefed Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on the progress to construct public buildings and social infrastructure facilities on the territory of the Minsk World multifunctional complex. At present the work is in line with the schedule specified in the investment agreement. “One of the key facilities is a financial center. It is important for us to get a facility that will benefit the municipal economy,” the mayor said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko's close attention to the multifunctional complex is due to the fact that at present this is the city's biggest investment project.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Anatoly Sivak also discussed the National History Museum of Belarus, in particular whether to build another building for it or expand the existing premises. Anatoly Sivak is in favor of the latter option as he believes that it makes more sense to keep the museum in the so-called museum quarter that is being established in the city center. This area boasts good transport infrastructure, other cultural facilities, cafes and restaurants. The current location of the museum on Karl Marx Street is very advantageous.

“There are people who suggest relocating the museum to a new building. As for me, I believe that we should expand what we already have. I have voiced my stance and the president has supported it,” Anatoly Sivak said.
