Minsk Initiative 2018 to bring together creative intellectuals of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine

MOSCOW, 17 December (BelTA) – Minsk will host the final event of the Minsk Initiative 2018 project bringing together the creative intellectuals of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine on 19-21 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund.

All in all, the event will bring together more than 100 creative and scientific intellectuals of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. “The event will open with the conference “Boris Oleynik's heritage in the context of intercultural dialogue” dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian poet and public activist, one of the founders of the Minsk Initiative. The conference, to be held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, will bring together leading philologists, linguists and historians from the three countries. Young translators will also make their contribution to the conference. They will present their new translations of Boris Oleynik's poems. The participants of the conference plan to take stock of the work of the project in 2018 and outline plans for the next two years,” the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund informed.

Following the conference, the participants will continue to work in specialized formats. Specialists in decorative art will open an exhibition at the Palace of the Republic “Needle Painting. Artists of the Avant-garde and Embroidery” and take part in the roundtable to discuss new approaches to studying and understanding the artistic heritage of the first half of the 20th century. The exhibition will display a unique phenomenon in artistic culture - attempts to visualize suprematism in artworks. The project was initiated by art critics of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Art, the Russian State Institute for Art Studies, and the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine. The curator of the exhibition is Doctor of Art Studies, Academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine Tatyana Kara-Vasilyeva.

Belles-lettres translators will be invited to take part in a workshop of the Studio of Comparative Translations Skerebert to discuss the translation of modern poetry.

The release of the third issue of the literary almanac Terra Poetica will coincide with the conference. Alongside with prose writers and poets, taking part in the project are now young playwrights. Every country suggested plays of four authors, both the debutants and outstanding writers.

The project is organized by the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in cooperation with the Culture Ministry and the Information Ministry of Belarus, the Ukrainian Fund of Culture.
