Minsk Ghetto victims commemorated in Yad Vashem in Jerusalem

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – A commemorative ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of the destruction of the Minsk Ghetto was held in the Hall of Remembrance at the Yad Vashem center in Jerusalem on 21 November. The initiator of the event was the Embassy of Belarus in Israel, BelTA learned from the diplomatic mission.

The ceremony was attended by Belarusian Ambassador Vladimir Skvortsov, Director of the Moshe Mirilashvili Center for Research on the Holocaust in the Soviet Union Arkadi Zeltser, historian Aron Shneyer, staff of the Yad Vashem center and a delegation of Belarusian teachers who came to Israel to participate in the annual seminar on the history of the Holocaust.

The ambassador, along with former prisoner of the Minsk Ghetto Vice Chairman of the Association of Concentration Camps and Ghetto Survivors David Taubkin, lit the eternal flame in the Hall of Remembrance. A wreath was laid on behalf of the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

On the same day, Vladimir Skvortsov addressed the seminar participants. The head of the diplomatic mission stressed that the Belarusian and Jewish peoples have long-standing historical ties. He highlighted the considerable contribution of the Jews from Belarus to the construction of the State of Israel.
