Minister: Visiting places of military glory is a token of tribute and respect to older generation

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Visiting places of military glory is a token of tribute and respect to the older generation, Belarusian Culture Minister Anatoly Markevich told reporters at a rally at the Belarusian State Pedagogical University to launch the 56th Star Expedition across the places of military and labor glory of the Belarusian people, BelTA has learned.

“Star Expedition is a long-standing tradition of the pedagogical university. Visiting places of military and labor glory has become an integral part of the patriotic education of young people. After all, by participating in the campaign you not only visit towns and places, see sights. You pay tribute to the memory and show respect to the older generation, the people who stood at the origins of the formation of our state,” Anatoly Markevich noted.

“It is known that any country, any nation is strong by its spiritual heritage, its youth. Today it is very important that young people should be not only highly educated but should love and respect their native land. We live in a beautiful, peaceful state, we know our history and make plans for the future. But we must never forget the terrible war. We should remember that it was Soviet soldiers, partisans, underground and rear workers who won the great victory that liberated the mankind from the terrible fascist regime. We bow low to our veterans, wish them good health and long years,” the minister noted.

More than 250 BSPU students and teachers will visit Dzerzhinsk District, Krupki District, Luban District, Slutsk District, Soligorsk District, and Cherven District of Minsk Oblast, Lida District and Novogrudok District of Grodno Oblast. They will hold rallies, lay flowers to the graves of soldiers and civilians who were killed during the Great Patriotic War, stage concerts in local educational institutions, meet with high school students, and organize master classes and sports competitions.

“I believe that the Belarusian youth are fantastic, talented, and creative. It is their task to take our native Belarus to new heights and find solutions to difficult problems. I am sure that young Belarusians are up to the task,” Anatoly Markevich added.

The Star Expedition campaign always involves future teachers. “It is important that this project is implemented with the help of future pedagogues who will soon start working at educational institutions. They will be responsible for shaping the view of life of new generations. The better these students understand the patriotic values and sense of responsibility towards their colleagues and the society, the better they can help children understand this,” the minister stressed.

Aleksandr Kadlubai

The history of the Star Expedition is unique, Deputy Education Minister Aleksandr Kadlubai added. The fact that this is already the 56th edition of the campaign proves that it has become an important tradition. “The campaign helps preserve the historical memory about the events of the Great Patriotic War, which is especially important for the youth. We see a lot of attempts to rewrite the history and distort the historic memory and facts,” Aleksandr Kadlubai noted.
