Minister: Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk remains relevant, continues growing

VITEBSK, 11 July (BelTA) – Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk has remained relevant and continues to be dynamic, Belarus Culture Minister Yuri Bondar said at the opening ceremony of the international press center of the festival, BelTA has learned.

“This has been made possible thanks to the understanding and transformation of the experience earned throughout the years into the new formats of work. This year's edition of the festival is no exception,” the minister noted.

Yuri Bondar recalled that in 1992 the festival started out as a small cultural event, and now it is a large-scale cultural forum with a very big representation.

“Over the years the festival has featured artists from almost 75 countries. We see that audiences show a great interest in everything that is happening during the festival in Vitebsk,” Yuri Bondar noted. He wished the participants of Slavianski Bazaar - artists, audiences, journalists, organizing committee – to enjoy their work and all the events.

More than 400 journalists have been accredited to cover the festival. Information Minister Aleksandr Karlyukevich addressed words of gratitude to all mass media representatives working at the festival stressing that it is thanks to their publications that Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk grows in visibility around the world.

Aleksandr Segodnik, the deputy head of the commission for social and youth policy, science, culture and humanitarian affairs of the Union State Parliamentary Assembly, vice chairman of the standing committee on education, culture and science of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, highlighted the inextricable link between the festival and the Union State of Belarus and Russia. “The Union State and Slavianski Bazaar have kindred bonds. Since 2003 the festival has hosted the Day of the Union State. This year it will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Pesnyary band and the 20th anniversary of the Union State Treaty. The day is awash with interesting cultural events and features a number of socially significant events organized by the MPs. The festival will traditional welcome the winners of the Creativity of the Young festival in Anapa and The Youth for the Union State festival in Rostov-on-Don. Every year the Union State earmarks more than RUB20 million to finance Slavianski Bazaar,” he said.

This year's Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk is held on 8-17 July. The ceremony and the gala concert of the festival's opening will take place in the Summer Amphitheater on 11 July. The closing ceremony will take place on 15 July. Additional events are supposed to take place on 8-10 July and 16-17 July.
