Media space described as new battlefield

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – There are real combat operations in the media space, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said in an interview with the ONT TV channel on 20 August, BelTA has learned.

“We all see that real combat operations are taking place in the media space, with the use of the entire arsenal of tools. They do not shy away from anything. All means are utilized," Roman Golovchenko said.

According to him, earlier there were three battlefields: land, sea and the air. Now there are two new ones, cyberspace and media space.

What we see today is the “substitution of concepts and manipulation”, the prime minister believes. “‘Free' media, ‘independent' media means that they do not represent anyone's interests. An old saying comes to mind: those who pay the piper, call the tune. Any media outlet cannot rely solely on the revenue from its economic activity," the prime minister said.

Roman Golovchenko said that “attempts to break up the country, sow hatred and chaos do not stop”. In his words, the state will continue broadcasting its position using the state-owned media outlets. The prime minister stressed that the media space is not monopolized. “We are building the state for people. We should be able to tell our people what we think and where the authorities lead the country to,” he said.
