MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – The main accomplishments of Belarusian scientists in the Year of Science were mentioned by Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov on 22 December, BelTA has learned.
The most important achievements of Belarusian science, which were mentioned during the second congress of Belarusian scientists, include the development of a portable supercomputer, which can perform up to 20 trillion operations per second, exceeds the computing capacity of the original supercomputer SKIF by 2.5 times while occupying a much smaller package. The important achievements also include the development of an electric car, a compact personal electric transport solution, and work on developing a proprietary energy storage system. “We are working to improve the electric car. I think we will be able to position it as a Belarusian R&D product next year,” said the official.
Vladimir Gusakov also mentioned the creation of a Belarusian national system for identification, labelling, and tracking goods and vehicles to avoid product forgeries, the development of the national food security doctrine for the period till 2030 as the basic guideline on developing agribusiness in Belarus, the development of a human DNA passport system, which allows editing gens and making the transition to personalized healthcare, including using stem cells.
The accomplishments secured by Belarusian scientists also include the creation of a series of highly effective medications, new varieties of agricultural crops, agricultural machines. Belarusian scientists also carried out space research projects and started work on a new satellite for the remote sensing of Earth.
The fact that the oldest settlements of the Slavs were found in Zhitkovichi District, Gomel Oblast is a discovery of international magnitude.
“A number of scientific accomplishments have been duly recognized by the international community. Those are artificial diamonds, highly effective vitamins, chemical and biochemical substances, microbiological preparations, and other ones. R&D products of Belarusian scientists in the area of laser and plasma technologies, optic and laser instruments, and new materials with special qualities are known far abroad,” noted Vladimir Gusakov.
