Lebedev: Most countries have confirmed participation in CIS foreign ministers meeting

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) - Foreign ministers of most of the CIS countries have already confirmed their participation in the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting in Samarkand, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers council is due to take place in Samarkand on 14 April. The foreign ministers of most countries have already confirmed their agreement to come. Uzbekistan has also said it is ready to host the meeting,” Sergei Lebedev said.

A joint session of the CIS plenipotentiaries and the Commission on Economic Issues at the CIS Economic Council is taking place at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 30 March.

Eight issues are on the agenda. They include the draft agenda for the next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council, an analysis of the preparations for the next meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, the progress made to fulfill the roadmap for the implementation of initiatives put forward by the heads of delegations during the meetings of the CIS Heads of State Council, Heads of Government Council, Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Economic Council.

The participants of the joint session are also set to assess the achievements of the CIS bodies in 2022 and will discuss the results of the CIS Coordination Transport Meeting in 2010-2022. The participants of the event will take stock of the action plan to implement the memorandum on deepening cooperation between the CIS Executive Committee and the Eurasian Economic Commission and will discuss the action plan for 2023-2025.

The CIS Plenipotentiaries Council is expected to agree on the candidacy of the head of the CIS observation mission for the referendum on the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan scheduled for 30 April 2023.
