Kondrusiewicz: We should listen to the voice of the people with our hearts

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – We should listen to the voice of the people with our hearts, Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz said when speaking at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress on 23 June, BelTA has learned.

“Public servants, common citizens, religious leaders should listen to the voice of the people with their hearts to make everything possible to promote the development of our country,” Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz noted. He added that the tradition of public discussions of the situation in the country takes its roots back in the times of the Old Testament when public gatherings played an important role in the life of the society.

Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz noted that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko met with Pope Francis not long ago, and also with Pope Benedict XVI before that. “All this helps build bridges for cooperation in different areas for the benefit of our society,” the religious leader stressed.

He said that Christianity has been playing a major role in Belarus over the course of the history. “Today, when there are so many ethnic and religious conflicts in the world, we thank God that in Belarus, all Christian denominations and other religious groups have been living together peacefully for centuries,” Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz pointed out.

He added that the importance of moral values in the development of a healthy society is frequently questioned today, which is a major problem. Therefore, it is necessary to do everything possible to restore these values and build future on their basis. Stable development is impossible without the preservation of basic moral values, Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz believes.
