MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia are taking adequate measures to ensure border security in the Union State, Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said on 31 May, BelTA has learned.
“The Defense Ministry jointly with the Russian Federation is doing enough to maintain security,” Viktor Khrenin said. “As part of these security building measures, the Russian defense minister and I have recently signed the documents determining the procedure for storing Russian nuclear weapons in the Republic of Belarus. This move is expected to cool down the aggressive and belligerent rhetoric coming primarily from the neighboring states. And we will continue to work in the information field,” he added.
At today's meeting MPs adopted the bill “On the ratification of the protocol between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation on amendments to the agreement between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation on joint regional military security as of 19 December 1997”. The protocol specifies the provisions of the agreement on the regional task force of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. It allows deploying military units of the Russian part of this task force as well as Russia's military infrastructure facilities to maintain the functioning of these units.
