"On Point"
MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – In Europe, an increasing number of leaders are expressing dissatisfaction with the policies of the so-called “coalition of the willing” while ordinary Europeans do not wish for the conflict in Ukraine to continue, Bulgarian political analyst Plamen Paskov said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
The political scientist also noted that, for some reason, individual countries are speaking on behalf of the whole of Europe, and one of them, namely the United Kingdom, is not even a member of the European Union. Moreover, an increasing number of European leaders are taking conflicting positions with the respect to the so-called “coalition of the willing”.
“The number of countries that not only sabotage such policies but that openly state their disagreement is comparable to this 'coalition of the willing.' Why have some suddenly decided to speak for everyone? Therefore, I oppose the incorrect notion that Europeans are in favor of continuing the war in Ukraine. It is not Europeans, but certain leaders,” Plamen Paskov emphasized.
Plamen Paskov pointed out that a European plan for resolving the conflict in Ukraine had appeared in the media. It serves as an alternative to the initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. One of the points in the European plan concerns Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. According to Plamen Paskov, this is unrealistic.
“What does this have to do with the military actions that have been ongoing for the fourth year between Russia and Ukraine? Furthermore, there are numerous criteria for a country to join the European Union. First, they dismantle it technologically and economically and impose regulations on its market and manufactures. In other words, a country is sent on a downward spiral. At least, that was the case with Eastern European countries,” Plamen Paskov said. Furthermore, he added, for any country to be admitted to the European Union, a consensus must be reached among all EU member states, which currently does not exist.
