MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – Chairman of Belarus’ Investigative Committee Dmitry Gora met with a delegation from Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs headed by Chief of the Investigative Department of the Russian MIA Sergey Lebedev to discuss cooperation, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Investigative Committee.
The parties reviewed prospects for expanding interaction and stressed the need to develop and implement joint programs to counter new challenges and threats. Dmitry Gora emphasized that pooling the experience of Belarusian and Russian investigators makes it possible to conduct complex international criminal investigations more efficiently and effectively.
He also praised the level of international cooperation, noting that the overwhelming majority of requests for legal assistance in criminal cases are directed to the Russian Federation. “In January-October 2025, more than 5,500 requests for legal assistance were sent to Russia, of which about 5,000 went to the Investigative Department of the Russian MIA,” Dmitry Gora stressed. Last year, two joint investigative and operational groups of the Belarusian Investigative Committee and Russian MIA were established and proved effective in investigating crimes committed by international criminal organizations in the ICT and illegal drug trafficking. In October 2025, a resolution was signed to create another group to investigate fraudulent activities of an international organized criminal network.
Sergey Lebedev confirmed readiness to further strengthen cooperation between the investigative bodies of the two countries. Special attention was given to information exchange, professional training of investigators, and the introduction of modern technologies into investigative practice.
