MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – The infant mortality rate in Belarus was one of the lowest in Europe in 2018, BelTA has learned from Belarus' Healthcare Minister Valery Malashko.
According to the preliminary estimates, the infant mortality rate in Belarus in 2018 was around 2.5 deaths per 1,000 live births. “This is the record low rate for Belarus and one of the lowest rates on the European continent,” Valery Malashko said.
According to the minister, this rate attests to the excellent work of the maternity services, neonatologists and healthcare facilities and also to the overall high quality of the government's social policy.
On 3 January, the minister visited the the Mother and Child National Research Center to give presents to the infants born in the first hours of the new year. The campaign will be underway in all maternity homes of Minsk in January. Gift boxes for infants have been made with the help of the partner brands of the MamaPro project. They include diapers, disposable changing mats, cotton swabs for infants, safe scissors and a soft hairbrush, a pacifier, a book on baby's diet for the first two years and other items.
