Historians working on consistent concept of Belarus' history

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Belarusian historians are working on the Belarusian history concept that will be consistent and will have the right conceptual framework, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives Igor Marzalyuk told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The most important function of the historic memory is to preserve fundamental values that make us a nation and a state. My colleagues and I are working on the concept of the history of Belarus' statehood. It will be set forth consistently and fairly in the first unique university textbook,” Igor Marzalyuk said.

The MP emphasized that this concept should be free from personalities who divide the nation. “For example, a person who dreamt of exterminating some ethnic group cannot be considered a national hero,” Igor Marzalyuk added.

In his words, the information security concept is the first important step towards strengthening historical memory. It reflects traditional values cherished by many generations of our ancestors. However, amidst information wars it is also necessary to provide with public with a convincing documented version of our past that will send a clear signal that any attempts to blacken the white and whiten the black, to call us a failed state devised by someone are blatant lie, which is punishable. “All horrible ethnic cleansings started from attempts to foment hatred. The task of the Belarusian state and this concept is to preserve the values, emphasize kindness and prevent any attempts to stir up hatred,” Igor Marzalyuk added.
