Heads of state to decide on CSTO secretary general appointment individually

MOSCOW, 4 July (BelTA) – The decision on appointing Belarus' representative Stanislav Zas Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization will be made by the heads of state of the organization on an individual basis. CSTO Acting Secretary General Valery Semerikov made the relevant statement at a press conference in Moscow on 4 July, BelTA has learned.

Valery Semerikov reminded that during the session of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council in Bishkek on 22 May the ministers of foreign affairs of the CSTO member states signed a resolution, which approved Stanislav Zas' candidacy for the position of the CSTO secretary general as from 1 January 2020. “The relevant draft resolution of the CSTO Collective Security Council has been forwarded to the heads of state for consideration and signing on an individual basis,” Valery Semerikov said.
