GRECO convenes to discuss Belarus' report on corruption prevention

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – The Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) has convened online for the 85th plenary session, BelTA learned from the information department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus.

“Participants of the session are set to discuss Belarus' draft fourth round evaluation report on corruption prevention in respect of MPs, judges and prosecutors,” the Prosecutor General's Office noted.

The discussion features representatives of the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, and the Prosecutor General's Office. It has been organized in a conference room set up for simultaneous interpretation in the BSU Faculty of International Relations. The Prosecutor General's Office is represented by Chief of the Corruption and Organized Crime Office Igor Greibo, heads and staff of other departments and the Research Center for Problems of Reinforcing Law and Order.

After discussing the report, the participants of the meeting will adopt recommendations for Belarus on corruption prevention in respect of MPs, judges and prosecutors.

GRECO's objective is to monitor the compliance of its member states with the anti-corruption standards of the Council of Europe. GRECO works in cycles. The monitoring includes the analysis based on written replies of relevant government authorities to a GRECO questionnaire and information gathered in meetings with public officials and representatives of civil society during an on-site visit to the country.
