Grand Prix of Listapad film festival goes to Ukraine

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – The Grand Prix “Golden Listapad” for Best Film of the 26th Minsk International Film Festival Listapad went to Atlantis directed by Valentyn Vasyanovych (Ukraine), BelTA has learned.

“This film is about the things that define a human being. This is about life and death, love,” program director of the festival Igor Sukmanov said. “This film was directed in a very professional way. It is concise and ascetic, it leaves out all the needless things focusing on the message. I believe that this film is about eternal things, however it is also relevant for today, as it touches upon the events going on in the neighboring state,” he added.

The Special Jury Award went to Corpus Christi directed by Jan Komasa (Poland, France). Jan Komasa was also honored with the Best Director Award.

The Best Screenplay Award was bestowed upon The Criminal Man by Dmitry Mamuliya and Archil Kikodze (Georgia, Russia). This film also got the Best Sound/Score Award. The Yury Marukhin Memorial Award for Best Cinematography went to Kim Hyun-seok for So Long, My Son directed by Wang Xiaoshuai (China).

Salome Demuria received the Best Actress Award for Inhale-Exhale directed by Dito Tsintsadze (Georgia, Russia, Sweden). The Best Actor Award went to Levan Gelbakhiani starring in And Then We Danced directed by Levan Akin (Sweden, Georgia, France).

The Diploma For Warm-Hearted Convey of the Folk Image went to Elena Susanina for the film Kerosene (Russia). The Diploma For Pushing the Boundaries of Cinema's Visual Art went to Valeria Gai Germanika for her film The Imagined Wolf (Russia).

Twelve entries took part in the Main Feature Film Competition this year. The jury was led by Carlos Quintela (Cuba). Other members of the jury included Olena Yershova (Ukraine), Jurga Dikciuviene (Lithuania), Vladimir Yankovsky (Belarus) and Larisa Malyukova (Russia).

“There was a tough competition, a very high professional level of the entries. These are unique films. If I were to score them, I would give them 8.5 to 10 points out of 10. we have five jury members. We debated a lot and it took us 7-8 hours to choose the winners,” Carlos Quintela said.

The winners were awarded at the Moscow cinema.

The 26th Minsk International Film Festival Listapad took place on 1-8 November 2019 under the slogan “To Joy”. The program of this year's festival included 154 films from 50 countries. It featured films from Sudan and Senegal for the first time. The festival was established by the Belarusian Culture Ministry, the Minsk City Hall. The ART Corporation center of visual and performing arts was the organizer of the event.
