Gomel to hold international conference on environmental security

GOMEL, 22 May (BelTA) – The fifth edition of the international conference “Cross-Border Cooperation in Environmental Security and Environmental Protection” will take place online at Francisk Skorina Gomel State University on 4-5 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the university.

Applications to take part in the forum were sent by more than 150 people from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. The participants represent more than 30 cities, including Minsk, Gomel, Brest, Vitebsk, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Khabarovsk, Krasnoyarsk, Rostov-on-Don, Tver, Makhachkala, Kiev, Odessa, Chernigov, Zaporozhye, Tashkent.

This year the conference will expand its agenda. “The conference discusses many areas of expertise, including water management, forestry, agriculture, manufacturing, transport, medical ecology, geoecology, human ecology. One of the key topics will be environmental safety of a modern state, environmental law. Speakers will also touch upon the way environmental issues are approached in literature, history, philosophy, culture,” the university's press service informed.

This year even school students will be able to take part in the conference. There will be a special section for them titled Juniors in Science.

“This international conference is held in the run-up to World Environment Day. For the fifth time it will bring together scientists from various countries. Cross-border cooperation, collaboration of specialists from across various fields of expertise will help accumulate information on the state of environment, take joint decisions in environmental security and promote nature conservation ideas,” the press service added.

The reports of the participants of the forum will be put together and posted online.
