Gomel art festival to draw some 2,000 participants

GOMEL, 16 October (BelTA) – Around 2,000 people are expected to take part in the international art festival Gomel Fest which will take place in Gomel on 14-16 November, coordinator of the festival and head of Festivali.by Aleksandr Lavrinovich said on 16 October, BelTA has learned.

Contestants will compete in five categories: vocal arts, choreography, instrumental music, theater, and visual arts. Each category includes various genres.

The organizers expect that the festival will draw participants from all over Belarus. They also sent invitations to artists from India, China, Ukraine, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Armenia, Germany, and other countries. “We continue receiving applications and expect approximately 2,000 participants. However, these are preliminary estimates,” Aleksandr Lavrinovich said. The deadline for applications is 4 November.

The main venue of the festival will be the Gomel culture center. Some of events will be hosted by Tchaikovsky Children's Music School of Arts No.1.

“Gomel Fest is a new format. There are a lot of competitions and festivals in various disciplines, but we came up with the idea to launch a project that will unite a lot of genres and age groups. People aged three years and older are welcome to take part in the festival,” Head of the Department for Ideology of the Gomel City Hall Yekaterina Degtyareva said.

Contestants' performances will be assessed by a professional jury, which will include representatives of various countries.

The festival will last for three days. During this time, participants will make new acquaintances, exchange experience in various genres, and establish relations, Aleksandr Lavrinovich believes.

Moreover, the new festival will be one of the qualifying events for the Slavianski Bazaar dance competition which was introduced in 2019.

Participants of the festival will also be invited to commemorate the occasion. Together with artist Yevgeniya Tsygankova, they will paint one of the walls inside the Gomel culture center. The painting will include the logo of the festival, but the organizers are ready to consider any additions to the draft. Proposals may be submitted till 10 November.

All events of the festival will be free of charge.
