MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – Georgia is grateful to Belarusians for support during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Belarus Valeri Kvaratskhelia said during an online conference organized by the National Press Center, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat emphasized Belarus' assistance in transporting Georgian citizens to their homeland at a time when many countries had introduced restrictions due to the coronavirus. According to him, more than 2,700 stranded Georgians were able to fly home through Minsk. Valeri Kvaratskhelia expressed his gratitude, including to the Belavia, whose flights were used to deliver Georgian citizens to Tbilisi.

The ambassador stressed that traditionally friendly contacts had been established between Belarus and Georgia in all the areas. The two countries have been steadily developing cooperation in political, economic and cultural areas. The coronavirus has influenced the bilateral relations. “Despite the fact that a lot has been closed due to the coronavirus, we are trying to support each other and will continue to trade and develop contacts,” the head of the diplomatic mission said.
