French language and culture classroom opens at Vitebsk State University

VITEBSK, 15 March (BelTA) – A classroom of the French language and culture was officially opened at the Masherov Vitebsk State University, BelTA has learned.

The classroom has been set up thanks to the cooperation of the three department of the university (philology, arts and graphics, pedagogy) with the French Embassy in Belarus. The opening ceremony was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France to Belarus Didier Canesse, representatives of the embassy, the university, local authorities, students and professors.

According to Didier Canesse, opening the classroom will contribute to the French language studies, promote the country's culture and will provide the opportunity to carry out various projects. “This initiative was a strategic decision. Today, Francophonie is expanding worldwide. There are about 300 million French language speakers in the world. Its knowledge opens doors, especially for those who dream of an international career,” the diplomat said.

The Ambassador assured that France will continue to provide support to the university with joint projects.

Rector of the Masherov Vitebsk State University Alekei Yegorov thanked the French guests for assistance in providing the equipment for the classroom and noted that Belarus has adopted much from France in spiritual, legal and cultural aspects. “This is the first and important step towards the development of relations of the university with France. The unity of cultures is very important not only for education but also for raising future generations,” he said.

On 15 March Ambassador Didier Canesse gave Vitebsk school No. 9 Label France Education certificate of the Ministry of Education. It gives privileged access to services contributing to the quality of education. In addition, the diplomat met with Vitebsk teachers of the French language and university students, answered their questions.
