FM: ‘International Quarter' at Minsk book fair will contribute towards better mutual understanding

MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) - “The International Quarter" at the Minsk book fair will contribute to the unification of countries and better mutual understanding, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said at the opening of a new thematic platform of Minsk International Book Fair in BelExpo center, BelTA has learned.

"The unifying principle of the book world is very much in tune with the diplomatic mission that we are promoting in the international arena. Because the task of diplomacy is to form and promote a unifying agenda. I am sure that this event will also contribute to the unification of countries, to a better understanding of each other. After all, with each of the countries that is participating in the book fair today, we have our own book of relations, which we have been writing since gaining our independence. This book is open, and we make entries daily, weekly, monthly, annually filling it with specific projects and very important events. Today's book fair will also make part of our bilateral relations with the countries participating in this project," Sergei Aleinik said.

The minister noted that "The International Quarter" that made its debut this year shows that the world of books is unique and inimitable. “It is a unique product, which is boundless and beautiful in its diversity. Books that are written in different languages, by different authors, in different countries, carry unifying principles. They reflect those values that are close to us and understandable: humanism, love, mutual respect, mutual understanding, self-sacrifice and many others. That is why “The International Quarter” has demonstrated this unity and diversity today. We have agreed to continue this practice. We saw great interest from the missions accredited in our country. Nineteen countries took part in this event. I am confident that next year we will host “The International Quarter” at the next book fair and it will attract much more participants and even more attention,” the minister stressed.

A new thematic platform has been launched with the support of the Information Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus as part of the Minsk Book Forum. It presents foreign literature from the diplomatic missions accredited in the country. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik, and representatives of the diplomatic corps also took part in the opening of “The International Quarter”.

The event featured a presentation of the book “Essays on the History of the Diplomatic Service in Belarus. Fates and Events. 1919-1930s”.
