MOSCOW, 19 October (BelTA) – Flights between Vitebsk and Russia's biggest cities – Moscow and Saint Petersburg – might be available in 2019, Vitebsk Oblast Governor Nikolai Sherstnev told reporters during a comprehensive presentation of the region at the Business and Culture Complex of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia on 19 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have plans to open flights from Vitebsk to Saint Petersburg and Moscow,” Nikolai Sherstnev said. He noted that Vitebsk Oblast is promoting its tourism industry, and it will greatly benefit from launching such flights.

The governor emphasized that the region draws tourists due to its nature, rich cultural heritage and the Slavianski Bazaar festival, the most recognizable brand of Vitebsk Oblast. According to Nikolai Sherstnev, the number of Russians attending the festival increases year to year.

“All our tourist facilities, health resorts are happy to welcome Russians. We are glad to show them our ancient culture. We will do our best so that they will get only positive impressions from visiting Vitebsk Oblast and Belarus in general,” the governor said.
