Fans, dignitaries go to Dinamo Stadium ahead of 2nd European Games opening ceremony

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – Over 20,000 spectators have already gathered in the Dinamo Stadium ahead of the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019, BelTA has learned.

Before the show began, the spectators were informed how they can use the app Opening Ceremony AR Minsk 2019, which adds augmented reality effects to the opening ceremony. TV viewers from all over the world will see the show with the special effects baked into the video stream.

Upon entering the stadium, every spectator received a backpack, which contains a raincoat, a glowing bracelet and a commemorative sign as well as a leaflet about the opening ceremony.

The organizers noted that all the tickets for the show, the main part of which will begin at 22:00, have been sold. Spectators can already see the scenery of the forthcoming opening ceremony that reflects Belarusian traditions. In the center of the stadium there is a stage, which was made using a number of technical solutions: a cascade of mirrors, lifting mechanisms, hatches, rotating and rolling components.

There is a pedestal with seven bells on the side of the flame cup. The sound of bells is part of the Belarusian culture. The number seven stands for luck and wishes every success to the athletes. Since days of old Belarusians believe that if one makes a wish when the bell tolls, the wish will surely come true.

The famous composer Igor Krutoy is the general producer of the opening ceremony. Aleksei Sechenov is the production director.

The world famous opera singer Anna Netrebko and the popular pop singer Dimash Kudaibergen from Kazakhstan will perform in Minsk on the key stage of the large-scale cultural and sport show.

The 2nd European Games are taking place in Minsk on 21-30 June. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 15 sports. The 1st European Games took place in Azerbaijan's capital city Baku in June 2015.
