Faibich-Schraga Zarfin's 15 paintings back in Belarus

MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Fifteen works by Faibich-Schraga Zarfin, a famous Belarus-born artist, a representative of the School of Paris, have been brought back to Belarus. The purchase of the works was negotiated by the Belarusian Embassy in France and descendants of the painter, BelTA learned from the embassy.

The paintings were acquired for the corporate collection of the A-100 Group of Companies. In early May there were delivered to Belarus. All the customs clearance procedures have already been completed. Preparations for an exhibition are in full swing. In the future, these works will be on display in the Minsk Regional Local Lore Museum in Molodechno, because the artist was a native of Minsk Oblast.

The returned works by Faibich-Schraga Zarfin were made in different techniques and represent various stages of his artistic career. This collection allows following his artistic journey.

Faibich-Schraga Zarfin was born in a small town of Smilovichi in Minsk Governorate. He studied at Wilno Drawing School. In 1914 he immigrated to Palestine, in 1923 he moved to Berlin and in 1924 he settled in France. He painted on fabric, created sketches for fashion houses and illustrated books. In 1947 he moved to Rosny-sous-Bois where he lived till his death in 1975. Faibich-Schraga Zarfin's works can be found in museums of France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States of America and Israel. The National Art Museum of Belarus has two of his paintings in its holdings; another 12 are in the corporate collection of Belgazprombank.
