Exhibition 'Belarus. Religion. Tolerance' opens in Paris

MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – An international exhibition project “Belarus. Religion. Tolerance” has opened in the capital of France, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in France.

The exhibition was presented by Belarus' Ambassador to France Pavel Latushko. In his words, it is symbolic that the project was launched during the WW1 centenary celebrations, as the exhibition emphasizes the importance of interethnic peace and interfaith accord for Belarusian people. For many centuries Belarus has been home to representatives of various religions who have been living peacefully side by side. Therefore, Belarus' experience of maintaining interethnic and interfaith accord is getting particularly relevant for the international community.

Pavel Latushko emphasized that Belarus suffered from wars, but never initiated them. No war will ever be instigated by Belarus. “Today the Belarusian flag is flying next to the flags of other countries at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris as a symbol of recognition of the role of Belarus and acknowledgement of victims among Belarusian people in the First World War,” the diplomat said.

The project was prepared by the Permanent Delegation of Belarus to UNESCO in partnership with the National History Museum of Belarus under the auspices of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the National Commission of Belarus for UNESCO Vladimir Makei.

The project “Belarus. Religion. Tolerance” is to be exhibited in other European countries, too.
