MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Publications dedicated to the 2nd European Games have set the benchmark for all other publishers to emulate, Belarus' Information Minister Aleksandr Karlyukevich told domestic and foreign journalists at an event to launch the Minsk European Games publications at the Svetoch book store on 17 June, BelTA has learned.
“We are presenting the publications in the run-up to the games to show the high bar for other publishers and educational institutions to emulate,” the minister said.
He stressed that the 2nd European Games for Belarus is an opportunity to demonstrate the country's friendliness, its tourist facilities, its capital and, of course, Belarusians who are interested in the humanitarian, cultural and educational parts of the country's life.
Publications published by the Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia Publishing House in the run-up to the games presented at the event include calendars, Minsk guidebook and tourist maps.
The draw of the presentation was the book “Top-Class Sport. European and Olympic Games” about the Olympic movement in Belarus, the participation of Belarusian athletes in the 1st European Games in Baku and sports facilities of the 2nd edition of the games.
The new Minsk guidebook was also presented at the event. Over 10,000 copies were distributed among Belarusian diplomatic missions abroad. The guidebook contains information about the upcoming games, the country, its capital, landmarks, transport connections, visa-free rules, Minsk hotels and popular shopping places.
“We did out best to show in these publications the cultural and architectural riches of our country,” said Director of the publishing house Vladimir Andriyevich. He advised foreign journalists to visit the National Art Museum, the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, the Stalin Line historical and cultural complex, and also the country's stadiums, ice arenas and swimming pools. He also advised them to try the Belarusian cuisine and take a look at the Belarusian arts and crafts. “These items show the soul of the people who made them. They reflect Belarusian traditions and the character of our nation,” he added.
Representatives of the foreign mass media have already visited several competition facilities, including Dinamo Stadium, Timoshenko Shooting Center and Minsk Arena. “Everything is great. Belarus is ready for the 2nd European Games. The atmosphere is festive as some 1,100 participants of the games and fans have already arrived in the country. Minsk Arena has impressed with its decorations. The Svetoch book store is a great place to meet and get familiar with new publications,” said correspondent of 112 Ukraine TV channel Inna Kardash.
Director General of OAO Belkniga Aleksandr Vashkevich awarded worker of the company Yana Sabina, the winner of the competition "Name Your Book Store". Yana Sabina, who gave the name to a book store in Vitebsk, received a three-volume encyclopedia Yanka Kupala published by the Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia Publishing House. “The new book store is housed in the center of Vitebsk and to emphasize its scale I wanted to make up something big in the native language: Knizhnaya Zorka (Book Star),” Yana Sabina said.More about Society
