Delegate: Belarusians of Poland feel part of Belarus

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – The Belarusians of Poland maintain their Belarusian identity, teach their children to keep in touch with their homeland, feel part of Belarus, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Public and Cultural Society in Poland Bazyl Siegien said at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress on 23 June, BelTA has learned.

There are Belarusian schools and lyceums, and about 60 amateur groups in Poland. Among the Belarusians of Poland there are a lot of politicians, businessmen and representatives of authorities.

As a teacher and university professor Bazyl Siegien believes that there is a need to revise the rules of admission for young people of the Belarusian ethnic group to Belarusian educational institutions.

Apart from that, Bazyl Siegien thinks as important to put in efforts to develop interest in and create conditions for Belarusians from abroad to learn the Belarusian language.

In his words, Belarusians of Poland maintain close contacts with the Belarusian cultural establishments that receive proposals on participation in various events. They are provided with costumes, musical instruments, and information support.
