Decision to set up council on historical policy seen as very important in Belarus

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) - The decision to set up a council on historical policy was very important and correct, Director of the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences Vadim Lakiza told reporters in Minsk on 1 February, BelTA has learned.

"The decision to establish the National Council on Historical Policy under the President Administration was very important and correct. We have long needed coordination on this front: historical education, research. The council is of great importance. A lot has been done. We have new tasks ahead of us," Vadim Lakiza said at a meeting of the council held at the National Academy of Sciences on 1 February. The meeting discussed the work of its commissions in 2022 and the action plan for 2023.

The National Council on Historical Policy under the Belarus President Administration was set up by the executive order of the head of state on 4 February 2022. It convened for the first meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in March of the same year. The council works on an ongoing basis and runs four commissions: on the conceptual foundations of national history, on scientific and methodological support of historical policy, on information and educational work and on foreign policy support of historical policy.
