Customs officers join children's charity campaign in Belarus

MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) – Yuri Senko, the chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, took part in the Our Children charity campaign and wished happy holidays to the children at the social education center in Korelichi District, BelTA has learned from the State Customs Committee.

The center caters to children aged 4-8. Belarus' customs and the Beltamozhservice company gave a new washing machine and a laptop to the center, and books, toys and sweet gifts to the kids. The customs officers lso acquired the tickets for the kids to attend the New Year show in the Palace of Republic.

The marathon of good deeds takes place in all the regions in anticipation of the New Year. The staff of the Minsk regional customs office visited the Ivenets residential school for children with physical disabilities and the Minsk central social education center located in the Partyzanski district of the city. Representatives of the Mogilev customs paid a visit to the orphanage for young kids while Gomel customs officers became special guests at the Yelsk auxiliary residential school and the Gomel district social education center. “Sadly enough, it is not always possible to make these kids' most cherished dream come true. And yet, it is in our power as adults to share some happy moments and our warmth and affection with each and every kid”, the State Customs Committee remarked.

The New Year charity campaign Our Children kicked off in Belarus on 9 December and will run through 10 January. The campaign is held under the patronage of Aleksandr Lukashenko. During the campaign, heads of government agencies, including local executive officials, visit orphanages and foster homes, foster and adoptive families who raise children with disabilities, rehabilitation centers and facilities for children with special needs, as well as hospitals. They wish children Happy New Year and Merry Christmas, give them gifts and help resolve their issues. Public associations also take part in the campaign.
