MOSCOW, 27 April (BelTA) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic, intends to develop a mechanism to ensure biological security. This was announced at a meeting of defense ministers and secretaries of security councils of CSTO countries with Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zaynetdinov told BelTA.
“The example of the COVID-19 pandemic made it clear that with the rapid spread of various infectious diseases across the globe, the threat to security is increasing. Therefore, the participants of the meeting voiced the need to take specific measures, keeping in mind the positions of the parties to develop a mechanism to ensure biological security of the CSTO member states,” the spokesman said.
The participants of the meeting discussed issues related to cooperation of the CSTO member states in the military-political and military-technical sector, as well as in the joint fight against global challenges and threats, such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, ensuring regional security, the situation in Afghanistan and strengthening of the state border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
