CSTO sees explosive growth of cybercrimes

MOSCOW, 29 April (BelTA) – The Collective Security Treaty Organization sees an explosive growth of cybercrimes. Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas made the statement after a session of the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the CSTO member states in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 29 April, BelTA learned from CSTO Press Secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov.

The official said: “In conditions of the universal pandemic and strict isolation, the so-called lockdown cyber security has acquired a new status that determines global and regional stability matters. The forced accelerated transition of state administration, business, and private life to the digital environment amid the pandemic led to a noticeable increase in crimes in the sphere of information and communication technologies.”

Stanislav Zas noted that in these conditions interaction between the Collective Security Treaty Organization member states is getting better. Cooperation between the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in various areas is expanding, including in information security.

Special operations called Proxy have been held within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization since 2008. In 2020 the number of facts testifying that crimes had been committed in the sphere of information technologies increased by nearly ten times to over 230,000. Over 84,400 criminal cases were opened or nearly four times as much as in 2019, the CSTO secretary general stated.
