Court ruling to strip Belarusian website tut.by of mass media status upheld

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – The court ruling to strip the website tut.by of its mass media status has been upheld, representatives of the Economic Court of Minsk told BelTA.

The decision of the court of appeal comes into force as of the moment it is passed but can be challenged under the cassation procedure within one month.

On 19 January the appeals instance of the Economic Court of Minsk examined the appeal filed by the company TUT BY MEDIA against the decision to strip the website tut.by of its mass media status. On 3 December 2020 the Economic Court of Minsk gave a ruling in a lawsuit filed by the Belarusian Information Ministry against the company in order to terminate the operation of the online medium tut.by. The lawsuit's claims were satisfied in full.

The Information Ministry had to file a lawsuit after issuing a number of written warnings to the company TUT BY MEDIA due to violations of the mass media law by the online medium tut.by. The warnings were filed due to certain publications, which, according to the Information Ministry, spread incorrect information that damaged state and public interests.
